Privacy Policy

In short
- Your video and your times never leave your device. Cutting happens right in your browser; nothing of it is uploaded.
- There is no account, no cookies, no advertising and no third-party tracking. We don't sell or share data.
- Without your consent we only record that the app is used, plus error reports – without any ID that recognizes you.
- Only if you agree do we store a random ID in your browser, record more detailed information about device and usage and count page views with Vercel Web Analytics (without cookies). You can change this at any time.
- Data is stored in Frankfurt am Main and deleted automatically after 180 days.
1. Controller
For questions about privacy or to exercise your rights, simply write to the email address above.
2. What happens only on your device
The video you choose is read, cut and turned into a file for you only in your browser. Neither the video nor single frames, the sound or the times you enter are sent to us or anyone else.
For the app to work, it creates these entries in your browser's storage ("local storage"). We don't set cookies.

The first three entries are strictly necessary for the function you asked for and stay on your device (§ 165 (3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). The ID is only created with your consent. You can delete all entries at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
3. Visiting the website (hosting)
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit, Vercel processes technically necessary data to deliver the pages and keep the service secure: IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred and your browser's identifier (user agent). We don't analyse these server logs ourselves.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). How long these logs are kept is determined by Vercel; see Vercel's privacy policy.
4. Usage and error statistics
So that we can fix errors and improve the app, it sends short messages to our server. They never contain your video, your times or the name of your file. Our server doesn't store IP addresses. From the browser identifier it only derives roughly which browser (with version number) and operating system is used and whether it is a mobile device.
a) Without your consent
- Counting usage: that the app was opened, a video was opened, a video was created or the download was clicked – only the name of the event and a random session number. The session number is new on every page load, is not stored and doesn't recognize you later.
- Error reports: if something goes wrong, the technical error message and where it happened (e.g. "open video"). With your consent also the last steps in the app before it (e.g. "video chosen", "create video clicked").
- Diagnosis: only if you start the diagnosis page yourself, the result of the device test (e.g. browser, processor cores, memory, graphics card, reading speed). The diagnosis page says so.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the app reliably, fixing errors and knowing whether it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Nothing is stored in or read from your browser for this. You can object to this processing at any time (see section 7).
b) With your consent
If you choose "Yes, sure" at the privacy question, the following is added:
- a random visitor ID, stored in your browser, so we can recognize returning visits;
- device details: number of processor cores, memory, name of the graphics card, screen size and pixel density, touch input, language setting and which video formats your browser can handle;
- video details: length, file size, file type and naming pattern (e.g. "IMG_####" – never the file name itself), resolution, frame rate and video format;
- usage details: number of videos and parts, total length, chosen settings, how long creating the video took and whether it was downloaded;
- audience measurement with Vercel Web Analytics (see below).
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165 (3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). It is voluntary; the app works exactly the same without it. You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future: choose "Change privacy setting" at the bottom of the page and answer "No". The ID is then deleted from your browser.
c) Audience measurement with Vercel Web Analytics
Only with your consent do we count with Vercel Web Analytics (Vercel Inc., see section 3) how often which pages are visited. No cookies are set and no ID is stored in your browser. For each page view, the page address, browser, operating system, device type (e.g. computer or phone) and the country derived from the IP address are processed. To count visits, Vercel creates a hash from the request data which, according to Vercel, is discarded after 24 hours, so you are not recognized across days. We only see aggregated numbers, no individual visitors. See Vercel's privacy information on Web Analytics.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165 (3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). Without "Yes, sure", Vercel Web Analytics is not used; after withdrawing consent, no more page views are counted.
d) Where and how long data is stored
The messages are received by a server function at Vercel in Frankfurt am Main. They are stored in a MongoDB Atlas database (MongoDB, Inc., 1633 Broadway, 38th Floor, New York, NY 10019, USA) in a data centre in Frankfurt am Main. Every message is deleted automatically after 180 days. A copy is also kept briefly in the logs of the server function at Vercel and deleted there as determined by Vercel.
5. Recipients and transfers to the USA
We use Vercel (hosting, server function, audience measurement) and MongoDB (database) as processors under data processing agreements (Art. 28 GDPR). Both companies are based in the USA, so access from the USA cannot be ruled out completely, even though the data is stored in Frankfurt. Transfers are based on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified under it, and otherwise on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 45 and 46 GDPR).
Beyond that we don't pass on data, don't sell data and don't use it for advertising.
6. No automated decisions
There is no automated decision-making and no profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
7. Your rights
You have the right to
- access to your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR),
- rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) and erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR),
- withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
We know neither your name nor your IP address, so messages sent without consent cannot be linked to you (Art. 11
GDPR). Messages sent with consent can be found by your visitor ID; you find it in your browser under this site's
data (entry clip-cutter:visitor).
If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection law, you can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria this is the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at, www.dsb.gv.at.
8. Changes
If the app or the law changes, we will update this privacy policy. The version published here applies.
